Best known for her Filigree Lace collection and Jungle collection, the award winning designer Chhaya Kapadia of Maya Jewels brings old world art such as filigree into the limelight by adding modern touches, making it irresistible for today’s women. Her Jungle collection attempts to draw attention to endangered species, donating 15% of her profit to the environmental causes.
Being born and raised in Mumbai, India, Kapadia was surrounded with bright colors, elaborate art and women wearing bangles up to their elbows. She completed a degree in science, married, and moved to New York City. Hard-working and ambitious, Kapadia thrived in the finance technology world, moving up quickly to high-ranking positions including vice president at Citibank, director at NASDAQ stock exchange, and executive director at Kaiser Permanente.
It was not until she reached the age of 50 that Kapadia made a bold career change, leaving her high-ranking position to design couture jewellery. Since its founding only three short years ago, Maya Jewels has gained recognition internationally and taken awards, including 2006 Town and Country Best of Design Award for Gold Design.
