Melissa Oster Talks With Katey Brunini on Alternative Bridal Designs

Transcript from Interview

MO: Good Day, I’m Melissa Oster from Oster Jewelers and I have the pleasure today of meeting with couture jewelry designer Katey Brunini. We at Oster Jewelers are seeing a trend toward alternative bridal, why do you think that is the case?
KB: Us young ladies are feisty in this era so we want to express our individuality in unique pieces and we do this by using the Twig Collection representational of the Tree of Life. So it’s an eternal image just like marriage should be an eternal commitment.

MO: Why is Bridal a Major Part of Your Collection?
KB: Well, we think that the first major jewelry purchase of a young couple is their engagement ring. They have to make the decision of what they’re going to spend their lives with. It’s also the great opportunity for Oster’s to show them their incredible inventory and start the young couple on their journey as collectors. Their family gets involved, the bridal party gets excited, and ultimately it becomes a relationship for the store and the young couple in the bridal community.

MO: Why are Colored Stones and Unique Cuts Successful?
KB: I’ve long been an aficionado of color and frankly I love diamonds but colored stones are more individual and self-expressive so if we follow the trend of young ladies wanting more individual pieces then we’ll also notice that they’ll want more unique and individual stones. Be it via color or shape, cut, size I think ladies today like to express their individuality through their jewelry.

MO: What Makes K Brunini and Oster a Great Fit?
KB: I think that you all at Oster’s are really pushing the boundaries on what is stylistically challenging with unique pieces. I’m going to give the example of the ring I’m wearing right now, it’s a big piece of quartz but ultimately this same mounting could be filled with a 25 carat fancy yellow diamond and believe me that’s a self-expressive piece of bridal jewelry.

MO: What Does Non-Traditional Bridal Design Mean to You?
KB: Here are two examples of bridal pieces that feature a sapphire and a rose cut diamond. Both of these I consider to be alternative bridal because it’s the non-traditional mounting but it incorporates gorgeous stones with a style that is timeless. Pear shapes elongate the finger. That’s another good thing to come into the store and actually try the piece on. You can do your homework and everyone at Oster’s is here to help you make the perfect selection.
